Mass times in Cologne Cathedral – Update 12.05.2020

For several weeks now, masses in Cologne Cathedral have been closed to the public.
Starting in early May, masses in the cathedral will gradually be opened to the public again.
However, strict hygiene measures will be in place and must be observed by all.

Starting on 4 May 2020, mass will be celebrated in Cologne Cathedral at the following times:

Working days (Monday–Saturday): 6.30 a.m., 8 a.m., 10 a.m., and 6.30 p.m. (only open to the public from 11 May).
Sundays: 7 a.m., 8.30 a.m., 10 a.m., 12 midday, 5 p.m., and 7 p.m.

Starting on 10 May, anyone who would like to attend one of the Sunday masses or the evening mass on saturdays (6.30 p.m.), must reserve a ticket for that mass. The tickets are free of charge and are not transferable.

Reservations can be made online from Wednesday, 6 May 2020 at www.koelner-dom.de/zugangskarten.

Starting on 4 May, morning masses on working days (Monday to Saturday) will be open to the public. No tickets or reservations are required for these masses. Here too, however, a maximum of 122 people will be allowed to attend mass. Once this number has been reached, no one else will be allowed into the cathedral.

The data of all those attending mass will be recorded to ensure that any chain of infection can be traced if required.

In order to ensure that we can celebrate the liturgy together in a responsible manner during the coronavirus pandemic, we ask you to observe the following rules:

• If you feel sick or unwell, please do not attend mass in Cologne Cathedral.
• If you would like to attend one of the Sunday masses, which will be open to the public from 10 May, or the evening mass on working days (6.30 p.m. Monday to Saturday), which will be open to the public from 11 May, please reserve your seat in advance. Reservations can be made at www.koelner-dom.de/zugangskarten from 6 May. Once you have registered, you will receive a ticket. You must bring this ticket with you to the mass. Every Wednesday at 9 a.m., the masses for the coming week will be opened for online reservations. You can order a maximum of two free tickets per reservation.
• For those who do not have access to the Internet, you can reserve tickets by calling 0221 17940 222 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Please note that tickets are not transferable and that you will not be allowed into the cathedral without a valid ticket.
• Starting on 4 May, you can attend morning working day masses (Monday to Saturday) without registering in advance. Here too, however, a maximum of 122 people will be allowed to attend mass. Once this number has been reached, no one else will be allowed into the cathedral. The data of all those attending mass will be recorded to ensure that any chain of infection can be traced if required.
• We urgently recommend that you wear a face mask on your way to the cathedral, while waiting in the queue outside the cathedral, and inside the cathedral itself.
• Please join the queue outside the West Portal and use the markings on the ground to keep a safe distance from others. Doors will open about an hour before mass begins. Please use the contact-free disinfectant dispensers outside the cathedral to sanitise your hands.
• Once your ticket has been checked, the cathedral attendant will show you to a marked seat. You may not choose your seat. You may not change your seat either.
• During the liturgy, please stay at a safe distance from all other mass-goers and do not make any physical contact with them (i.e. shaking hands for the sign of peace).
• When going to Holy Communion, please use the designated paths and the markings on the ground and keep a safe distance from others. It is not possible to receive Holy Communion on the tongue.
• Once mass has ended, please leave the cathedral swiftly using the South Portal (exit Roncalliplatz), keeping the required distance from others at all times! Once you leave the cathedral and are on Roncalliplatz, please observe the ban on gatherings in public places!
